About the Course

In this course, the student will continue with film history and learn to discuss contemporary audiovisual production as part of historical tradition. The course provides an overview of historical development of film as an audiovisual medium as well as more detailed knowledge of individual periods and individual works. 

Students learn how storytelling has emerged through different cultures in different parts of the world and how these cultures have had an impact on storytelling and how films are made. The form and structure of film from around the globe are being analyzed in the lectures and by students in their own research for each period that is being covered.

  • can find and refer to information about a historical periods of film history

  • can exchange points of view with other students on an historical area in film history through self-study
  • can together with fellow students or on their own develop an understanding about a given historical development, and can discuss contemporary film production in relation to such historical phenomena
Learning Activities

Digital Learning Resources
The learning management system (LMS) is the primary learning platform where students access most of their course materials. The content is presented in various formats, such as text, images, models, videos or podcasts. Each course follows a progression plan, designed to lead students through weekly modules at their own pace. Exercises and assignments (individual or in groups) are embedded throughout the courses to support continuous practice and assessment of the learning outcomes.

Campus Resources
In addition to the digital learning resources, campus students participate in physical learning activities led by teachers as part of the overall delivery.

Guidance
Guidance and feedback from teachers support students' learning journeys, and may be provided synchronously or asynchronously, individually or in groups, via text, video or in-person feedback.
