The course offers an introduction to script writing, camera techniques, sound recording and editing software. Students are required to pass a certification test in the use of camera equipment and editing software used in the first semester.
In this course the student gets a basic introduction to filmmaking and the required equipment. With a focus on learning and understanding the basic levels of roles on a film production set, the student gains knowledge and understanding necessary to advance to the following courses.
The candidate:
- has basic knowledge of camera, lighting and sound equipment
- has basic knowledge of framing, composition, exposure, editing, sound recording and lighting
- has knowledge of how a small production team works in an audiovisual production
- understands the duties of the following roles: producer, production manager, director, script writer, cinematographer, editor, sound director and lighting director
The candidate:
- masters production and postproduction equipment at a basic level
- can apply terminology for framing and composition
- understands the importance of working methods to develop a cinematic expression
The candidate:
- can plan and carry out a short audiovisual production by using basic cinematic principles and the use of production and post-production equipment
- can develop work methods to produce and make a short audiovisual production
In this course, the following teaching and learning methods can be applied, but are not limited to:
- Lecture: Educator-led presentations or activities providing knowledge, skills, or general competencies in the subject area.
- Group work: Collaborative activities where students work together to solve problems or complete tasks.
- Tutoring: One-on-one or small group sessions with an instructor for personalized guidance and support.
- Student presentations: Opportunities for students to demonstrate their understanding of course material by presenting to peers.
- Online lessons: Digital content delivered via an online learning platform.
- Guidance: Individualized advice and direction from instructors to support students in their learning journey.
- Workshops: Practical sessions focused on hands-on application of theoretical concepts or skills.
- Self-study: Independent study where students engage with course material on their own without any teacher support.
Teaching materials, reading lists, and essential resources will be shared in the learning platform and software user manuals where applicable.
