This course explores Geographic Information Systems (GIS) which is a valuable tool in spatial planning and research, both in forestry and applied ecology. Using combined thematically-oriented short instruction videos and exercises students will learn and put fundamental principles of GIS into practice.
The students will learn about the methodological aspects of spatial data. It includes collecting, managing, analysing and presenting of such data. A larger section of the course is devoted to spatial analytical methods. Another topics that are covered in the course are elementary cartography, introduction to remote sensing, spatial data models and its sources. Students will get training in effective communication with a map as a tool.
