Admission requirements: Exchange students: Study modules (minimum 15 ECTS points) in media, film, and literature studies; cultural studies; Scandinavian Studies; history, sociology etc. Applicants will be assessed individually.
This course investigates Scandinavian culture through distinguished contemporary films and television drama serials. From a national and an international perspective, Scandinavian film and television drama are doing very well, and can pride themselves with Oscar awards and nominations as well as international Emmy awards. The course aims to explore film and television texts in light of key characteristics of the Scandinavian societies and culture while delving into the key figures, themes and stylistic traits of contemporary Scandinavian cinema and television.
Through diverse case studies, the course offers these main approaches: 1) A focus on works of famous Scandinavian film directors. 2) A focus on recent trends within television like the highly successful Nordic Noir - crime serials. 3) A focus on youth film and comedy. 4) A focus on multiethnicity and the multicultural in Scandinavia.
