About the Course

This is the basic music theory course for the 1st year students. They will already have touched upon some of the terminology and techniques through practical work and introductions to songwriting in previous courses. This course is dedicated to basic descriptive music theory and ear training. While this course will include a music theory test, most of the pratical work is centered around application of the knowledge in studio work to describe and transcribe various properties of music.

Sound and Music Production covers a wide range of basic skillsets that is relevant in different parts of the production process. While not essential to the basic inception of musical composition, music theory and ear training are important tools for developing as composers and producers. It is also a cross-disciplinary descriptive language used to better communication between composers, performers, producers, engineers and others involved in a music production process.
