About the Course

The course provides knowledge and skills to handle and extract information stored in Building Information Models to further improve project workflows. Candidates learn to obtain information from Building Information Models and are provided skills to perform validation checks and clash detection in disciplinary and inter-disciplinary projects. The course also provides knowledge and practical application of industry approved file formats, documentation and safe file storage. The course builds on competence from Project Management and Model Coordination.

The aim of the course is to provide an understanding of tasks and challenges in the working life. Candidates work on inter-disciplinary projects based on industry practices and explore the preparation of 3D models for the various processes involved in collaborative projects, and Building Information Model projects, from start to finish.

Course Learning Outcomes
Learning outcomes - Knowledge

The candidate:

  • has knowledge of open standards and processes that are used to improve inter-disciplinary Building Information Modelling projects.
  • has knowledge of processes and tools that are used to perform data extraction from Building information Models for verification and quality assurance.
  • can assess his/her own geometric clash detection in relation to disciplinary and inter-disciplinary building projects.
  • can assess his/her own inter-disciplinary collaboration and distribution of models and reports.
  • is familiar with the building industry and information handling in professional projects.
Learning outcomes - Skills

The candidate:

  • has insight into relevant tools and techniques to perform disciplinary and inter-disciplinary clash detections.
  • can explain his/her own choice of data extractions for verification and quality assurance.
  • can reflect over his/her own preparation and communication of building models.
  • can find and refer to information on open standards and relevant file formats in Building Information Modelling projects.
General Competence

The candidate:

  • can contribute to the planning and execution of inter-disciplinary Building Information Modelling projects, alone or as part of a group.
  • can exchange points of view with peers, as part of a group and participate in discussions about problems and viable solutions.
  • can contribute to the development of optimised workflows in inter-disciplinary building projects.
