The course provides knowledge of energy and project execution simulations to collect data from 3D models in the design and execution phases. Candidates are provided skills to optimize Building Information Models for proprietary and third-party software analysis. The course provides knowledge and skills in simulation techniques to add value to Building Information Models and increase their usability and functionality.
The course builds on previous courses' competence but requires the tools provided by project management. The aim of the course is to apply knowledge in practical applications, where industry-relevant simulations are performed to extract valuable information from building models.
Environmental regulation is becoming increasingly demanding; extracted data from 3D models is vital in building, reducing carbon emissions, and creating more environmentally responsible infrastructure.
The candidate:
- has knowledge of concepts, processes, and tools that are used to generate simulations from Building Information Models.
- can plan and carry out the production of useful data for the analyses of designers in different fields of the industry.
- is familiar with different types of simulations used in the building industry.
The candidate:
- can contribute to prepare simulations and communicate results to superiors and colleagues.
- can explain his/her choices for preparing Building Information Models for simulation and has some insight into the scope and intentions behind the request.
- can reflect on his/her own methods to produce simulations and understand how these improve and add value to Building Information Models.
- can find and refer to information in Building Information Models that could be utilized to produce more environmentally responsible infrastructure
The candidate:
- can plan and carry out a simulation using Building Information Models.
- can contribute to analyse digital buildings and present the results.
- can contribute to implement modifications on Building Information Models to add value and optimize simulations guided by a responsible designer.
In this course, the following teaching and learning methods can be applied, but are not limited to:
- Lecture: Educator-led presentations or activities providing knowledge, skills, or general competencies in the subject area.
- Group work: Collaborative activities where students work together to solve problems or complete tasks.
- Tutoring: One-on-one or small group sessions with an instructor for personalized guidance and support.
- Student presentations: Opportunities for students to demonstrate their understanding of course material by presenting to peers.
- Online lessons: Digital content delivered via an online learning platform.
- Guidance: Individualized advice and direction from instructors to support students in their learning journey.
- Workshops: Practical sessions focused on hands-on application of theoretical concepts or skills.
- Self-study: Independent study where students engage with course material on their own without any teacher support.
Teaching materials, reading lists, and essential resources will be shared in the learning platform and software user manuals where applicable.
