The course provides knowledge of mathematical concepts and material physics in building simulations for energy and emission analysis. Candidates are provided skills to to interpret the data provided by the software and suggest changes based on the results. The course builds upon previously introduced tools to improve project efficiency.
The aim of the course is to provide candidates with the skills required to initiate simulations according to industry practices. The course is a prerequisite to developing digital models that are more environmentally responsible and add value and go beyond visual representation.
The candidate:
- has knowledge of theories, hand calculations, and mathematical formulas that are used in digital building-related simulations.
- has knowledge of concepts, processes and tools that are used in building simulations for energy and emission analysis.
- is familiar with the calculations utilized in the design processes.
- has insight into his/her own opportunities for development with environmentally responsible design tools.
The candidate:
- can exchange information of materials and elementos in a 3D model to improve energy analysis results.
- can reflect over the energy report and make adjustments under supervision.
- has knowledge about material properties information and its relevance for energy analysis.
The candidate:
- has knowledge of theories, and mathematical principles that are used in digital buildings.
- can plan and carry out energy analysis to improve the buildings environmental footprint and energy performance.
In this course, the following teaching and learning methods can be applied, but are not limited to:
- Lecture: Educator-led presentations or activities providing knowledge, skills, or general competencies in the subject area.
- Group work: Collaborative activities where students work together to solve problems or complete tasks.
- Tutoring: One-on-one or small group sessions with an instructor for personalized guidance and support.
- Student presentations: Opportunities for students to demonstrate their understanding of course material by presenting to peers.
- Online lessons: Digital content delivered via an online learning platform.
- Guidance: Individualized advice and direction from instructors to support students in their learning journey.
- Workshops: Practical sessions focused on hands-on application of theoretical concepts or skills.
- Self-study: Independent study where students engage with course material on their own without any teacher support.
Teaching materials, reading lists, and essential resources will be shared in the learning platform and software user manuals where applicable.
