About the Course

The course provides foundational knowledge of near photo-real visualisations with good composition. Candidates are provided skills in lighting and rendering used by professionals in the visualisation industry. The course provides knowledge of problem-solving 3D models and textures. Candidate learns about documenting and presenting visualisations. 

The course provides competence for interdisciplinary file sharing and visualisation of 3D models across production software. The candidate is provided knowledge of lighting and material production techniques, as well as skills in still image production. The course provides skills in composition, camera setup and post-production of images. The course builds upon the course 3D Mechanical.

Learning outcomes - Knowledge

The candidate: 

  • has knowledge of tools that are used for sharing 3D models across applications. 
  • has knowledge of concepts, tools and processes that are used to apply materials, light a scene and render footage. 
  • has knowledge of composition and the golden ratio that are used to optimise the visual impact of images and video. 
  • has insight into relevant standards and quality requirements for resolution, image size and file formats. 
  • has knowledge of mechanical assemblies, technical drawings and processes that are used to visualise CAD models. 
  • can update his/her knowledge of materials, lights, rendering and composition to optimise the visual output. 
  • understands the importance of his/her own structure in project files and naming conventions in a visualisation project. 
Learning outcomes - Skills

The candidate: 

  • can apply knowledge of materials to adjust textures based on the geometric shape and surface roughness. 
  • can apply knowledge of lights and photometric data to balance the lighting scheme. 
  • master's relevant tools and techniques for rendering images and video. 
  • can find information and material related to visualising. 
  • can study CAD models and identify geometrical issues and what modifications need to be optimised for import/export. 
  • can study renders and identify optimisation and composition issues and what settings need to be adjusted and implemented. 
General Competence

The candidate: 

  • understands the principles for good composition to render images and video of professional quality. 
  • has developed an ethical attitude for visualisation material copyrights in relation to his/her own production. 
  • can carry out import/export, texturing, lighting and rendering of CAD scenes. 
  • can build relations with his/her peers in relation to CAD visualisations. 
  • can develop near photo-realistic visualisations. 
  • can develop visualisations following detailed specifications and quality requirements.
