- Course description
- Course CodeFM1AR3A75
- Level of Study5.1
- Program of StudyTechnical Design Architectual
- Credits7.5
- Study Plan CoordinatorCarlos Henriquez
The course provides knowledge of and skills with Parametric Object-based Modelling, which is the process of defining and manipulating architectural models using parameters and automation. The course provides skills with industry-standard software and production methods for architectural 3D modelling. The course presents methods that enables problem-solving and accurate representation of architectural models through insight into relevant standards and regulations. Candidates also learn techniques for reusing models and appropriate drawing generation from 3D models. The course builds on competence from 3D Mechanical.
The course provides a deeper understanding of technical drawings and introduces 3D architectural models. The candidate learns professional terminology and essential techniques for developing 3D models using modern 3D CAD software. The candidate is provided insight to standard requirements and principles for the development of technical models.
The candidate:
- has knowledge of tools and processes that are used to produce and modify architectural 3D models with basic geospatial topology.
- has knowledge of tools and processes that are used to create and modify object elements in architectural 3D models.
- has knowledge of digital buildings, technical drawings and processes that are used to plan architectural models.
- has insight into relevant standards and quality requirements for annotating and dimensioning architectural technical drawings.
- has knowledge of the architectural CAD industry and is familiar with professional workflows.
- can update his/her knowledge of modelling, projection and production methods for developing architectural 3D models.
The candidate:
- can apply knowledge of current modelling tools to create and modify architectural 3D models.
- master's relevant tools and techniques to present technical drawings based on architectural 3D models in accordance with professional practices.
- master's relevant tools and techniques to create visualisation of architectural 3D models and geospatial topography.
- master’s relevant tools and techniques to create and modify object elements in parametric object-based modelling.
- can find information and material that is relevant to creating architectural constructions.
- can study architectural 3D models and identify issues with geometry and intersecting elements, and what measures need to be implemented for accurate models and drawings.
The candidate:
- understands the principles of parametric object-based modelling and the organisation of project files that apply in architectural design.
- understands the principles of optimised geometry, views and sections for presenting professional technical drawings for architectural 3D models.
- can build relations with his/her peers in relation to 3D models and architectural design.
- can develop architectural 3D models according to specifications.
Digital Learning Resources
The learning management system (LMS) is the primary learning platform where students access most of their course materials. The content is presented in various formats, such as text, images, models, videos or podcasts. Each course follows a progression plan, designed to lead students through weekly modules at their own pace. Exercises and assignments (individual or in groups) are embedded throughout the courses to support continuous practice and assessment of the learning outcomes.
Campus Resources
In addition to the digital learning resources, campus students participate in physical learning activities led by teachers as part of the overall delivery.
Guidance
Guidance and feedback from teachers support students' learning journeys, and may be provided synchronously or asynchronously, individually or in groups, via text, video or in-person feedback.
