About the Course

The course provides knowledge of accessibility concepts, methods and principles relevant for the development of user-friendly digital experiences. Candidates are provided insight into Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) that apply to developing digital user experiences. Candidates also learn about testing the accessibility for different web pages and web applications. The course provides knowledge of the ethical aspects surrounding the development of digital experiences to a variety of users depending on their specific needs. The course builds on competence from Usability Testing 1.

Course Relevance
The course aims to teach the essential accessibility principles that apply to user experiences for websites and web applications. As aspiring designers, candidates are responsible for ensuring everyone has access to the solutions created regardless of ability, context or situation. By following and fulfilling accessibility principles candidates are able to create better user experiences for everyone. The course also builds an important competence base for cross-discipline collaboration with interaction designers and front-end developers , which enables candidates to participate in the collaborative process of creating even better user experiences accessible to everyone.

The Candidate…

  • has knowledge of accessibility concepts, methods and principles that are used in the development of user-friendly digital experiences
  • has knowledge of industry relevant accessibility testing techniques, methods and tools that are used in digital experiences
  • has insight into the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
  • can update his/her knowledge about WCAG and its applicable uses
  • understands the importance of empathy and inclusive design mentality to develop user experiences available to everyone

Teaching and Learning

In this course, the following teaching and learning methods can be applied, but are not limited to:

  • Lecture: Educator-led presentations or activities providing knowledge, skills, or general competencies in the subject area.
  • Group work: Collaborative activities where students work together to solve problems or complete tasks.
  • Tutoring: One-on-one or small group sessions with an instructor for personalized guidance and support.
  • Student presentations: Opportunities for students to demonstrate their understanding of course material by presenting to peers.
  • Online lessons: Digital content delivered via an online learning platform.
  • Guidance: Individualized advice and direction from instructors to support students in their learning journey.
  • Workshops: Practical sessions focused on hands-on application of theoretical concepts or skills.
  • Self-study: Independent study where students engage with course material on their own without any teacher support.
