This course helps students gain an understanding of the processes related to the design and implementation of a relational database. Fundamental aspects, regarding the relationship between database entities and the creation of queries in the structured query language are the core aspects on which this course is based.
The aim is to give students practical knowledge of databases along with techniques and knowledge necessary for the general understanding of databases.
The candidate:
- understand the role of databases as a tool for storing and structuring information.
- has knowledge of fundamental relational database concepts, theories, processes, and tools.
- understand how relationships between various database entities are defined.
- understands how to integrate database queries with software code.
- has insight into their own opportunities for development.
The candidate:
- can apply knowledge of structured query language to convert real-world entities into a database structure.
- can apply knowledge of the structured query language to create and update a database and its contents.
- can apply knowledge of the structured query language to extract information from an existing database.
- can create database tables and relationships reflecting their own vocational choices regarding database design.
- can find and refer to information about specifications and software relevant to database design and development.
- can reflect over their own vocational practice regarding the creation of database queries and adjust it under supervision.
- masters relevant tools and techniques to plan, organize, analyse, and interpret database designs as they relate to vocational issues.
The candidate:
- can plan and carry out the creation of vocational database designs and queries, alone or as part of a team, and in accordance with ethical requirements and principles.
- has developed a practical attitude in relation to database development.
- can contribute to organisational development in the implementation and management of databases.
In this course, the following teaching and learning methods can be applied, but are not limited to:
