About the Course

This course explores commercial filmmaking such as advertisment, music videos and promotional films for a variety of clients. The students gain a basic understanding of how to work on and with a commercial project. They learn how to tell a visual story within a limited time frame, and focus on clarity, sharpening the message and precise storytelling to a given audience. The students learn to understand and act on a client’s wishes and create visual documents to present ideas and concepts in line with these. The student also gain knowledge of how to start their own business and what rules apply if they want to work as a freelancer in the professional film industry.

Knowledge

The candidate:

  • has knowledge about concepts, theories, processes and ways of working on a commercial audiovisual production
  • has insight into how to work as a freelancer in the film industry
  • has knowledge of how to create and produce a commercial project within ethical standards of the film industry
  • is familiar with pitching techniques and how to adjust to a client needs/feedback
Skills

The candidate:

  • can use professional post-production programs and equipment to create a desired expression on a commercial project
  • can use professional film equipment on an independently to create an expression alone or as part of a film team on a commercial project
  • can find and refer to information and subject matter and assess the relevance of a vocational issue in various subject functions
  • can reflect over his/her own vocational practice and adjust it under supervision
General Competence

The candidate:

  • can plan and carry out a commercial project individually or as part of a production team
  • can exchange points of view with others in the commercial film industry and participate in discussions about the development of good practice and ethical standards
  • can plan and carry out a pitch, plan, and produce a commercial film in line with a client’s needs and wishes
Learning Activities

Digital Learning Resources
The learning management system (LMS) is the primary learning platform where students access most of their course materials. The content is presented in various formats, such as text, images, models, videos or podcasts. Each course follows a progression plan, designed to lead students through weekly modules at their own pace. Exercises and assignments (individual or in groups) are embedded throughout the courses to support continuous practice and assessment of the learning outcomes.

Campus Resources
In addition to the digital learning resources, campus students participate in physical learning activities led by teachers as part of the overall delivery.

Guidance
Guidance and feedback from teachers support students' learning journeys, and may be provided synchronously or asynchronously, individually or in groups, via text, video or in-person feedback.

Work requirements and Assessment

Two (2) mandatory work requirements must be submitted throughout the course, in addition to the final course submission. These requirements will be assessed as either Approved or Not Approved.
