About the Course

​​In this course, the student will learn about film history and discuss contemporary audiovisual production in the context of the evolution of film.

The course provides an overview of historical development of film as an audiovisual medium as well as more detailed knowledge of individual periods and individual works.

Knowledge

The candidate:

  • has knowledge of film seen as a tool for early film historical events.
  • has knowledge about filmmaking during early historical periods
  • can update his/her knowledge in the field of film history through self-study

The candidate:

  • can study a specific work in film historical context, discuss form, structure and style of such a film.
  • can find information to expand knowledge when needed, in connection to presenting a film within an early historical period.

The candidate:

  • has developed an understanding of film historic area or theme through self-study.
  • can find information with fellow students or on their own to develop an understanding about a given filmic historical development.
Learning Activities

Digital Learning Resources
The learning management system (LMS) is the primary learning platform where students access most of their course materials. The content is presented in various formats, such as text, images, models, videos or podcasts. Each course follows a progression plan, designed to lead students through weekly modules at their own pace. Exercises and assignments (individual or in groups) are embedded throughout the courses to support continuous practice and assessment of the learning outcomes.

Campus Resources
In addition to the digital learning resources, campus students participate in physical learning activities led by teachers as part of the overall delivery.

Guidance
Guidance and feedback from teachers support students' learning journeys, and may be provided synchronously or asynchronously, individually or in groups, via text, video or in-person feedback.
