About the Course

In the course the students get to work with the creative aspects of telling a story. Now when they have acquired the basic understanding for filmmaking they work as part of a group and focus more on the visual elements of telling a story.  The students work together as a professional production team where everyone has specific key roles and accompanying tasks. The finished film should maintain a satisfactory artistic and technical level.

The students will make a short film production and apply all the practical and theoretical knowledge they have acquired from the previous courses. With this production the students will be able show that they are ready for the more professional aspects of filmmaking.

Learning outcomes - Knowledge

The candidate:

  • has knowledge of concepts, processes and tools used in pre-production, production, and post-production of a short film
  • has knowledge of production documents for the different key roles used in pre-production, production, and post-production of a short film
  • has knowledge of the Norwegian film and television industry and relevant regulations, standards, agreements, and requirements used by this industry
  • has knowledge of how a professional production team consisting of specific key roles works
  • can update their own knowledge as a film worker
Learning outcomes - Skills

The candidate:

  • masters relevant vocational tools, materials and techniques, required for a given type of short film production
  • can apply production documents for a short film production
  • can apply vocational knowledge of production planning on a short film in an independent manner to create a desired expression
  • masters postproduction equipment in an independent manner to create a desired expression
  • can apply knowledge of script writing software and write a short film script in an independent manner
  • can update their knowledge in the film profession through self-studies 
General Competence

The candidate:

  • understands the ethical principles in the film industry, and has an ethical foundation in the practice of the profession
  • can work in one or more key roles on a film production in an independent manner
  • understand the principle of pitching a film idea in a satisfactory manner to fellow students and teachers
  • can develop work methods to create a short fiction film
Teaching and Learning

In this course, the following teaching and learning methods can be applied, but are not limited to:

  • Lecture: Educator-led presentations or activities providing knowledge, skills, or general competencies in the subject area.
  • Group work: Collaborative activities where students work together to solve problems or complete tasks.
  • Tutoring: One-on-one or small group sessions with an instructor for personalized guidance and support.
  • Student presentations: Opportunities for students to demonstrate their understanding of course material by presenting to peers.
  • Online lessons: Digital content delivered via an online learning platform.
  • Guidance: Individualized advice and direction from instructors to support students in their learning journey.
  • Workshops: Practical sessions focused on hands-on application of theoretical concepts or skills.
  • Self-study: Independent study where students engage with course material on their own without any teacher support.
