This course offers a broad introduction to international environmental law. The course provides the student with a good understanding on important issues of the international law related to environmental protection. Central questions on legal methodology, legal sources, and environmental principles will be addressed. The course will introduce more specific areas in international environmental law, such as the conservation of biological diversity, protection of the marine environment, and addressing climate change. Other topics include the relationship between environmental protection and human rights, and international trade and investment law.
Learning Outcome
Upon passing the course, students have achieved the following learning outcomes:

- have knowledge of the main international environmental treaties
- can reflect on the relationship between the protection of the environment and other areas of law (such as human rights and trade and investment agreements)

Submission and passing of an individual assignment is a requirement for admission to the exam.
