In this course the students will be introduced to the music production process by composing and producing songs in groups. They will collaborate with second-year students on finishing the productions in a larger studio. The students will also be given an overview of, and practise roles and responsibilities in studio and music production work. They will be introduced to necessary software and other tools.
This is the opening course of Sound and Music Production at Noroff. It provides basics and fundamentals in methods, tools, cultural and social competencies needed to participate in the courses that follow. The course is designed to promote an active campus-, study- and studio-culture, in which collaboration and networking between students and classes is strongly encouraged to support good future work habits.
The candidate:
- has knowledge of basic studio work and sound production software
- has introductory knowledge of midi and file types in Audio Production Software
- has a basic industry overview of roles and career opportunities in sound and music production for the music and media industry
- has a basic understanding of collaboration, areas of responsibility and roles in songwriting and studio work
- has knowledge on how to study and acquire knowledge in sound and music production
The candidate:
- can apply knowledge to the basic operation of a DAW
- can apply knowledge to be part of a production team in a studio setting
The candidate:
- can carry out music production as part of a team at a foundational level
- can carry out a simple audio recording and file import/export
- can build relations with fellow students in a production process
In this course, the following teaching and learning methods can be applied, but are not limited to:
- Lecture: Educator-led presentations or activities providing knowledge, skills, or general competencies in the subject area.
- Group work: Collaborative activities where students work together to solve problems or complete tasks.
- Tutoring: One-on-one or small group sessions with an instructor for personalized guidance and support.
- Student presentations: Opportunities for students to demonstrate their understanding of course material by presenting to peers.
- Online lessons: Digital content delivered via an online learning platform.
- Guidance: Individualized advice and direction from instructors to support students in their learning journey.
- Workshops: Practical sessions focused on hands-on application of theoretical concepts or skills.
- Self-study: Independent study where students engage with course material on their own without any teacher support.
