This course advances studio engineering skills through focused work in media postproduction and a coordinated music/media project. The opening module develops practical competence in dialogue and effects editing, sound design and assembly, with attention to genre-specific workflows, session organisation and delivery to stated specifications. Fluency in Pro Tools for media tasks is strengthened alongside template building, track-count management, versioning and quality control. Transferable methods between media and music production are highlighted, and current AI tools are introduced at an introductory level where they support efficient, transparent workflows. Professional standards, client expectations and ethics specific to media sound underpin the work.
The course culminates in an integrated group project: a media piece completed through practical postproduction, and a music production,l both delivered in collaboration with composers. Teams plan the pipeline, assign roles, justify technical choices, and iterate based on structured feedback. Emphasis is placed on clear communication with non-technical collaborators, reliable scheduling, and adherence to format and loudness requirements. Compared with first-year projects, the scope and autonomy are greater, workflows are more specialised, and the target is a consistent, client-ready technical result across both strands.
