- Level of study5.2
- Program of study3D Art and Games Technology: Content Creation
- Credits7.5
- Course coordinatorKevin Fosse, Paul Martin Tangen
The course provides knowledge of and skills with procedural tools and techniques for 3D asset development. Candidates are provided knowledge of non-destructive procedural workflows enabling art-direction throughout the pipeline and last-minute changes that would be too costly in a traditional CG pipeline. In addition, candidates are provided with an understanding for automating repetitive tasks and model optimisation. Candidates also gain insight into procedural asset creation in a larger framework within a studio pipeline. The course builds on competence from 3D and Art Fundamentals.
Course Relevance
The course aims to teach procedural tools and techniques for 3D content creation and optimisation. Proceduralism is becoming a necessity in modern day 3D production pipelines since it retains the ability to quickly pivot or make non-destructive changes to 3D assets at a low cost. Flexibility and reusability without losing quality is a highly regarded competency in all aspects of the 3D industry.
The Candidate…
- has knowledge of procedural and non-destructive workflows, methods and tools that are used in 3D asset creation
- has knowledge of the procedural asset creation mindset that is used for procedural asset creation in a 3D pipeline
- can assess his/her own workflows in relation to procedural asset creation
- is familiar with the history and distinctive nature of procedural content creation
- has insight into his/her own non-destructive and procedural methods as a support to the value creation for businesses, organisations or individuals
The Candidate…
- masters relevant tools and techniques for creating procedural 3D assets
- can explain his/her choices of procedural tools and techniques
- can reflect over his/her own procedural work and adjust it under supervision
- can find and refer to information and material within procedural asset creation and assess its relevance to his/her own projects
The Candidate…
- can plan and carry out procedural asset creation
- can contribute to organisational development with the skillset of procedural 3D content
