This course offers a practical introduction to writing, arranging and producing songs. Basic music theory and ear training-keys, chords, intervals and rhythm-are connected to simple song analysis and lyric writing. Compositional methods, arrangement and genre conventions are explored alongside introductory studio work. Topics include DAW workflows, basic mixing, synthesis, sampling and virtual instruments, common delivery formats, and a brief orientation to current AI tools used in music production.
Learning takes place through a mix of individual and group tasks. Students develop ideas into short productions and, at times, take a defined role on another project (for example, mixing or completion). Emphasis is placed on planning work, meeting deadlines and giving/receiving feedback. Examples from popular music history support listening skills and informed creative choices. By the end of the course, students develop comptencies for shaping musical ideas and for collaborating effectively in the studio.
