Course content

The course will cover the specific learning requirements linked to the candidate’s artistic doctoral work. This course will enable the candidate to conduct their artistic doctoral work and communicate research and subject-related matter to peers.

Teaching and working methods

The course comprises elective and adapted activities. Overall, the course will have a scope corresponding to five credits.

The working methods used in this course may include:

  • participation in seminars, workshops, courses and conferences relating to the candidate’s specialisation, organised by the Norwegian Film School or other universities and university colleges
  • testing of methods and practice through the production of prototypes/pilots, etc.
  • organising and implementing seminars and workshops that highlight issues associated with their own artistic research that are applicable to peers
  • student exchange or research visits at institutions abroad
  • the study of literature and artistic work, including study trips relating to the doctoral project

An individual plan for the project-specific training component will be drawn up in consultation with the main supervisor no later than upon the submission of the revised project description within three months of the start-up of the research project that will culminate in conferral of the artistic PhD degree. The plan will provide an overview of academic specialisations and specific and desired working methods and activities. The individual project-specific plan will be approved by the PhD committee.

All courses are evaluated. The time/date and method are decided in consultation with student representatives. The course coordinator is responsible for ensuring that the evaluation is carried out.

Required coursework

The course will be passed when the candidate’s participation in scheduled courses and activities has been documented and approved. The activities included in the course cannot overlap with activities within the course on Artistic research in film and related audio-visual arts.

The course is approved by the head of the PhD programme.
